This is a solo bass arrangement of the Metallica song 'Nothing Else Matters'. It was originally intended to be part of my book 'Solo Arrangements for Electric Bass', but was not included as I couldn't secure the copyright permission in time. The sheet music and an MP3 are available as a FREE download at Bassline Publishing (www.basslinepublishing.com). This was played on my Zon Sonus bass, through a TC Electronic RH450 amp.

This is a video of my arrangement of the Sting song, 'Shape of My Heart', which was part of my book Solo Arrangements for Electric Bass. This performance was played on my Zon Sonus bass, through my TC Electronic 450 amplifier. The audio was recorded into Logic, and compression and a little reverb were added afterwards. This video was shot as an experiment with editing two camera angles together in Final Cut Pro X. The filming was done by my good friend Jon Tucker.

Maynard Ferguson - Coconut ChampagneMay 19, 2012
Walter Maynard Ferguson, best know for his extreme high register control on trumpet, was a Canadian jazz trumpet player and bandleader. Born in Verdun, Quebec (now part of Montreal) Maynard by the age of four was playing piano and violin but at 9 years of age he switched to cornet. At age thirteen, Maynard first soloed as a child prodigy with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Orchestra and was heard frequently on the CBC, notably featured on a "Serenade for Trumpet in Jazz" written for him by Morris Davis. Maynard won a scholarship to the French Conservatory of Music where he studied from 1943 through 1948 with Bernard Baker. Maynard dropped out of Montreal High School at age 15 to more actively pursue a music career, performing in dance bands led by Stan Wood, Roland David, and Johnny Holmes. During this period, Maynard came to the attention of numerous American bandleaders and began receiving offers to come to the United States. Maynard moved to the United States in 1949 and initially played with the bands of Boyd Raeburn, Jimmy Dorsey, and Charlie Barnet. The Barnet band was notable for a trumpet section that also included Doc Severinsen, Ray Wetzel, Johnny Howell, and Rolf Erickson. When Barnet temporarily retired in 1949 and disbanded his orchestra, Maynard was free to accept an offer to join Stan Kenton's newly formed Innovations Orchestra, a 40-piece jazz concert orchestra with strings. **PLEASE READ** I was getting really annoyed by answering the same questions over and over again. So here's a quick FAQ: 1) This is a solo arrangement. You don't need 4 hands or 2 people or whatever. 2) I am fully aware of the overlapping notes in some parts, but with the right timing, they are perfectly playable. You are also free to move any hand up or down an octave as you please. 3) As for the bass notes in 1:35, they are prolonged because you're holding down the SUSTAIN PEDAL. So yes, it is possible to play the chords after you press the octaves. 4) It is played in the correct key, just compare with other videos if you are unsure of this. 5) I know some people make 50% speed videos and whatnot, but I am not doing this. They just take up space. If you want to learn the piece, download the midi and the sheet music. Also, Synthesia is available for free, so you can slow it down to any speed you want with the midi I provide! 6) For some people, the download/opening of the files doesn't seem to work. Someone gave me a solution for this, which is as follows: "You have to open it with Winrar and, unless you have a Mac, only open the 'Xion's Final Battle' folder. The Midi file is working perfectly for me, so there isn't a problem with the file it self. If it still doesn't work, check your internet connection. The download may have been interrupted somehow."
